Rail News - good and not so good.
It was great to have the Prime Minister back in Devon today to mark the reopening of the main rail line through Dawlish. With the traditional start to the tourist season almost upon us, this will help our whole county and the entire South West.
On a less positive note, it's disappointing that Devon missed out when Network Rail announced its new five year plan for investment. In particular, the Tarka Line is North Devon's only link to the national rail network. Its future must be secured and I'll be working to ensure that happens.
Wind Turbines
This week, the subject of wind turbines has again been in the headlines. The LibDems have blocked a policy which would have restricted the march of turbines across our countryside. See the BBC's report here:

It's also an issue that's been at the top of my inbox locally. I've been asked by residents to become involved with two controversial applications in North Devon.
The first is near Ash Mill where the Planning Inspectorate has decided to determine the outcome without a public hearing. I went to meet nearby residents and then wrote to the Inspectorate. We now know that there will be a site visit and all interested parties will be represented.
Secondly I was contacted by a resident about an application for two turbines near West Down, not far from the existing Fullabrook wind farm. She was concerned that not all local residents had been told about the application, and that it could be determined without going to the elected planning committee. I was able to advise how to get involved in the process.
The common link between these two cases, quite apart from the merits of each application, is the concern of local people that their voices are not being heard. It is vital that the planning process is transparent, fair and democratic. I will always fight for local residents in these circumstances. That's a message that's getting through, as more and more people are already turning to me to represent them.
What do you think?
I really want to know your views about a number of issues . What matters most to you and your family and to the country as a whole? Please spare a couple of minutes to tell me here www.conservatives.com/survey
