Faced with the cost of living crisis the Lib Dems have obviously put town centre parking prices up!
We want to encourage people to spend more time in Barnstaple. 'Parking Plus One' is simple, buy one hour, get two hours, buy two get three hours etc. You can then spend less on parking and more on shopping and socialising with your friends, supporting our local traders. We want our council to back local businesses and local people. That surely isn't too much to ask is it?
We of course want to see more investment into our local bus services and indeed our cycling and walking network but for many people, coming into town to shop or socialise requires a journey by car. We know that with inflation the way it is that prices will go up but surely we can be more innovative and try to help people stay longer?
With bags of government cash North Devon Council is wisely putting some of its own money into Barnstaple High Street and indeed have invested in buying Greenlanes. We need to encourage customers, extra footfall will encourage more private investment and maybe more tenants into Greenlanes itself. We believe that driving this extra footfall will help fund our council far more sustainably in the long run rather than just whacking up parking up parking prices.
We hope you feel the same.
